Launched in New York City in 2012, Awake NY is the brainchild of Queens native Angelo Baque. A reflection of the diversity that continues to define the city’s landscape, Awake NY draws on a plethora of Baque’s influences to capture the spirit and sensibility of the five boroughs.

Awake NY’s seasonal collections are informed by the eclecticness of downtown New York City in the early ‘90s, updated with refined silhouettes and domestically-made everyday basics to round out the wearer’s wardrobe. The brand’s collections grow each season, including the addition of tailored pieces that have become mainstays in recent years: sweater vests, overcoats and suits now anchor seasonal collections.

As the brand grows globally, community remains a core pillar. Awake NY continues to work with organizations both local and nationwide, providing support to underserved communities whenever possible. Organizational partners to date include: Building Black Bed-Stuy, Children of Promise, NICE, Sky High Farm, Scope of Work (SOW), and more. The brand works directly with each organization to identify areas of need within each respective partner’s network.

In addition to its in-line offerings, Awake NY consistently collaborates with a variety brands. To date, Awake NY has partnered with: Levi’s, Carhartt WIP, ASICS, Vans, Nanamica, Reebok, Moncler and more. In September 2022, UPS handpicked Awake NY as its collaborative partner for a New York Fashion Week pop-up shop, titled “La Bodega Baque,” which featured exclusive UPS x Awake NY product alongside a multitude of up-and-coming Latinx brands, handpicked by Baque. All proceeds from the Awake NY x UPS collection, as well as a $50,000 grant, went to Manhattan’s High School of Fashion Industries to support a scholarship program for Latinx designers and entrepreneurs.
